The action suggests that platform users may increase.
According to TechCrunch, Evan Williams, the co-founder of Twitter and creator of the online publishing site Medium, revealed that it will now be using the Mastodon platform.
Me.dm, a community that the platform will develop, will include dependable infrastructure, moderation, and a short domain name that will make it simpler for users to share their usernames.
Mastodon Gains Popularity
Since Elon Musk took control of Twitter, Mastodon has grown in popularity as users migrated to other platforms, Mastodon being one of them.
The site now has 2.5 million monthly active users, up from only 300,000 in October 2022, according to recent data.
Mastodon, in contrast to Twitter, allows users to join communities, each of which has its own set of rules, policies for moderation, and personal timelines.
Although it doesn’t prevent users from doing so, it is anticipated that many will join a community that corresponds to their particular interests. Users are still free to follow other users in other communities.
Medium entry
Medium makes his Mastodon available to creators and readers as an added benefit of Medium membership. This creates a forum for discussion of content on Medium. This makes it an interesting local feed. Joining Mastodon also makes it easier to find topics that interest you.
This will give Medium a “Sign up with Medium” interface to join the microblogging platform. This eliminates the frustration of having difficulty getting started with the platform.
This could increase Medium’s readership. Shortly, we plan to invite selected authors and publications to an initial group of testers before inviting all authors and readers.
Need for a Twitter alternative
Medium isn’t the only company recognizing the need to find an alternative to Twitter. Substack recently introduced a discussion feature to their app. In December 2022, Flipboard launched a notes feature with a similar purpose. Tumblr announced in November 2022 that it would acquire ActivityPub, a decentralized social networking protocol similar to Mastodon.
It’s no secret that Twitter faces many problems, such as speeding up user rates and removing fake accounts. Many users of the site are dissatisfied with the company. This has reduced the number of users on the site. The company is aware of the problems they face and has made many changes to the user interface as a result. It also banned some high-profile accounts. As such, the company still struggles to retain users.
